Um den Namen NON GRATA rankten sich lange Zeit die verschiedensten Gerüchte. Schon angesichts des Todes der Kunst durch Konventionalisierung steht er für die schreckliche und ungewollte Entkörperung der Menschen, von der die Bedeutungslosigkeit der zeitgenössischen Kunst ausströmt. Für diejenigen, für die die Welt der Kunst dort beginnt, wo die Kunstwelt endet,war NON GRATA ein Befreier; der orphische Bruch auf dem scheinbar unabänderlichen Weg, welcher uns wie auch immer in die Irre führt, er ist eine Heilung vom Inzest. Das Hauptanliegen der Gruppe ist ethischer Natur – es ist das Abbild des Primitivismus, des Unpersönlichen und der experimentellen Kreativität. Die Logik der Performances der Gruppe liegt darin Regeln zu vermeiden. Die Präsentationen sind physische Texte, deren Orthographie und Lesung durch die reale Aktion der Gruppe bestimmt werden. Ästhetische und provokative Herausforderungen werden immer wieder an Orten präsentiert, an denen die Kunstwelt nicht funktioniert.

The name NON GRATA has been surrounded by various hushes and shushes fora long time. In face of the death of art by conventionalization, it has embodied the horrible and involuntary disembodiment of the human being emanating from the meaninglessness of contemporary art. For those for whom the world of art begins where the art world ends, NON GRATA has been a salvation, an Orphic break in a seemingly unalterable course that however it might mislead us, offers a cure for incest. The group’s main concernis ethical – it is the image of primitivism, impersonality and experimentalcreativity. The logic behind the group’s performances is that of breaking molds and rules. The presentations are physical texts; how they are spelled and read is determined by the actions of the group members. The group presents aesthetic challenges and provocation in places where the rules of art

NON GRATA ist eine Performancegruppe aus Estland. Zur Gruppe gehören rund 40 Mitglieder. Die wichtigsten Eigenschaften der Mitglieder sind Anonymität in der Gruppenarbeit, Ignoranz gegenüber der lokalen Kunstwelt und den Massenmedien. Die Gruppe ist in Island, USA, Frankreich, Deutschland, Russland, Polen, Lettland und England mit lange andauernden “GHETTOMARATHONS” – 14 Tage im Keller, 240 h im Asyl, 336 h im Experimentalen Raum etcetera aufgetreten | NON GRATA is a Performance Group from Estonia. The group consists of around 40 members. The most important requirements for
members are ANONYMITY in group work and indifference to the local art scene and the mass media. The group has presented its extended performances or “GHETTOMARATHONS” - two weeks in a basement, 240 h in an asylum, 336 h in Experimental Space etc. - in Iceland, the U.S., France, Germany, Finland, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and England.
