Emigrant Billard Club | Installation
Den sowjetischen Bürgern waren Emigranten lange Zeit die „Ikonen”
des freien Willens.
Heute sind viele Dinge erlaubt und erfreuen sich großer Beliebtheit,
die in der sowjetischen
Vergangenheit verboten waren. Aber vieles,was gestern noch als eine Art Offenbarung
empfunden wurde, ist in der Gegenwart zur Banalität und zum Gemeinplatz
geworden...
Die Installation „Emigrant Billard Club” besteht aus einem großen,
lächerlich grob gefertigten Tisch mit Hammer und Sichel, der in einen
Billardtisch umgewandelt wurde.
Die Billardkugeln zeigen Portraits russischer Emigranten. Zwei Queues sind
ebenfalls aus
grobem Holz gemacht. Die Aufgabe des Ausstellungsbesuchers besteht darin,
die Bälle in
kleine „ausländische” Löcher zu versenken und eine Mitgliedschaft
im „Emigrant Billard
Club” zu erwerben.
For a long time emigrants were the “icon” of free will for
Soviet citizens. Many things that
were forbidden during Soviet times are permitted and widely popular today.
On the other
hand, many things that people perceived as a revelation in the past merely
sound trite
and banal today... The installation Emigrant Billiard Club is a large, home-made
ridiculously crude table with a hammer and sickle on the surface that has
been transformed into a billiard table. The billiard balls bear the portraits
of Soviet emigrants. Two billiard cues are also made of rough-hewn wood. The
viewers job is to try to get the balls into small “foreign-country”
holes and thus gain membership in the “Emigrant Billiard Club.”
